John Rabins hails from Monterey Park, California, located 14 miles east of central Los Angeles. After serving 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, followed by a 22-year optometry career, he now spends much of his time writing. His writing career actually began within days of his loss of home and rental property in the June 11, 2013 Black Forest fire. Unbelievably, that same day his father in California died.

These tragedies made John receptive to God’s sharing some rich life lessons that he published in 2020 as the award-winning Defined by Fire: Seven Life-Changing Lessons from Devastating Tragedy.

In mid-2018 John embarked on a 90-day, 4,320-mile bike ride across the country, from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia. This served as a healing journey for him, during which he penned 16 powerful devotions, contained in the eBook Spiritual Musings from the Saddle of a Bicycle. His dog Obee “helped” him prepare for this arduous trip (see photo below)!

He is currently working on a series of articles regarding cutting edge issues that divide us as a country, flagship topics such as skin color, gender identity, and sanctity of life. These will be compiled into a book entitled Spiritual Musings from the Headlines of a Newspaper: A Toolkit for Christians Navigating a Culture of Lies. The hope is that it will be useful for Christians needing better tools for engaging with those caught up in the lies so prevalent in today’s world.
